With the speed that technology advances, you need to be extra vigilant about your security online. The past is oh, so old-news, and if you are like me, the future is just a roller-coaster just waiting for you to jump on. And just like that roller-coaster, some are scarier than others. The threats to your on-line safety and security are going to be knocking at your door next year. Do you know know what to look for? Do you know how to respond? Lets not get too lax in our online habits with a false sense of security just because you have the latest anti-virus software. If you've ever been the victim of one of these, then you know what I'm talking about.

Artificial lens implant to give patients ‘high-definition’ vision, better than 20/20 - SmartPlanet

Artificial lens implants could be the solution to someone's terrible eyesight. The lens would replace the original and be 'custom fit' to the person. It would be like installing glasses right in the eye itself.

Global Warming was "fixed"

There seems to be "evidence of substantial fraud in reporting the "evidence" on global warming; the unlawful destruction of records to cover up this fraud ,conspiracy, and deceit in the entire operation."

How will the Media portray the evidence? This will probably just be a footnote on the day (if that). This needs to be brought out to the open and fully examined.
Read it for yourself - (1079 emails and 72 documents) VERY Incriminating!

With Hurricanes At Thirty Year Low, Gore Turns To Photoshop

There's a quote in the story that says it all.

“In searching for a new enemy to unite us, we came up with the idea that pollution, the threat of global warming, water shortages, famine and the like would fit the bill. All these dangers are caused by human intervention, and it is only through changed attitudes and behavior that they can be overcome. The real enemy then, is humanity itself.”
Per the story, Al Gore is associated with the group that put this to paper.

Figures.

Forever Posting

I'm wondering if you could set up a 'system' between Blogger, Facebook and Twitter so that your post would be re-posted in a vicious cycle around all 3 sites forever. I believe there are enough utilities/plug-ins/sites out there that you could do this...
It would only be a theory at this point, though...

This one is from the Apartment Therapy Unplugged site:

A 'fan' with no blades? This is a very cool looking device... a little pricey, but way cool.
Would I put one in my house? When the price comes way down from the clouds.

The Economy is Over? Ask The Guy Down The Street

How do they know?.... Did they get a twitter from the Economy Gods on this? Are they going to back up their words if things don't recover like they think?

I'm sure the guy next door who hasn't had a job in 6 months feels like today is just an extension of the last month; The economy sucks - and it will suck tomorrow too.

How about we start sending a message to BO's administration that he needs to start paying attention to the guy down the street. There is no way this economy will recover if there are still no jobs to go around. Make job creation #1. We all know that the Billions that have been tossed into the market only got us in debt. We may never recover from that. But as little good as that did, you can bet your bottom dollar that if there are no jobs for the guy down the street, then this economy will never recover.

Christopher Columbus Was Evil... Sentenced to Life by 4th Graders

WOW... Christopher Columbus Sent to prison for life by a class of 4th graders. I assume that since all this more of less erases the Historical aspect of his presumed "discoveries", then we should demand that the unions and government workers give up the holiday and get their asses back to work. Heck, these 4th graders are the leaders of tomorrow. We should be listening to them today! Ya think?

Farmer Grows Pumpkins with Human Faces

This is kind of Creepy... But totally in season, I suppose. This farmer has actually produced pumpkins with the likeness of a human face grown into them. No, its not carved out, but really the skin of the pumpkin. My first inclination would be to scare the pants off the trick-or-treaters on Halloween. Sounds like fun to me!

Banned Books Week

The American Library Association has set asside this week, Sept 26 thru Oct 3rd, 2009 as Banned Books Week. Their site has a listing of some notable books which have been banned. It indicates who banned it and why. They hold the annual event to celebrate "the freedom to read and the importance of the First Amendment." Something we should all be aware of.
Regardless of whether you have read any of the book on this list, it should be noted that reading is probably the single most important thing you should learn. Read. Read a lot. And enjoy the freedom you have to do so.

OMG - Your First Amendment Rights are in Danger

Your local liberal crazy is about to be empowered with 'flagging' you with "fishy speech" if you speak out about the White House's new health-care plan.

WHAT THE-

Thats right... you may become the next person that the White House has to keep an eye on - if your local fink-meister has anything to say about it, that is. All you have to do is send something in an email that rubs a health-care plan watch-dog just a little wrong. They in turn send that email to the White House to "flag" you as having made 'fishy' claims about Obama's new health-care plan.

Game-Over... You're Flagged

This is atrocious, if you ask me. I agree with Sen. Tom Cornyn on this one.
I'm just a little concerned about my Rights here. Aren't you?

How to Upgrade Windows XP to Windows 7 Without Losing All Your Settings – Make Tech Easier

This article shows an easy way to upgrade from Windows XP to Windows 7. From the sounds of it, the process seems quite straightforward. I can understand the MS marketing perspective of keeping XP out of the loop, but why make it hard on people who want to hang on to something that works? XP users will be upgrading to Windows 7 anyway, and there will be a lot of complaining along the way because of the lack uf an upgrade path. This tool should make the path a much smoother one, for sure.

The Worth of Me -or- Does This Sell My Soul, or Just a Part of It?

In my previous post, I was feeling a little bit excited, hoping to make the most out of what I considered a 'free-time' effort: Taking surveys and getting a few bucks for doing so. Well, this is an update to that post. I have so far made nothing, but then again, I have invested nothing. Literally. "So whats the update about?", you ask. Here's my experience: The "surveys" presented so far(about 6 or so) have all required a token purchase with credit card or application for a credit card. Personally, I am not one to just toss my credit card out there 'willy-nilly' for a merchant to latch on to and (more than likely) sell my info later on down the road. I will say that some of the surveys were for well known products, and some I have never heard of. Regardless, I personally chose not to participate. My philosophy is this: My opinion itself ought to be worth something to the companies who value their product. In defense of Vindale's system, they are very up-front about possible costs incurred and the time it could take to complete a survey. They do not reimburse you, hence they credit your account. Note that some of the products you are asked to review are for subsription services. As for me, I would rather not bother with this stuff. Its not worth whoring myself out for the easy 5 or 10 bucks in my account, thats for sure.
I'm pretty picky about where I spread my personal info out on internetland. Personal info is easier to secure when I know it stays in my pocket.

Have you had an experience with online surveys?

Making Some Money on the Side

We all long for that magic crystal... The Secret Formula... The Winning Numbers... But lets face it, OK, I'm not one for get rich quick schemes... That's why I'm willing to do a little work to make a buck or two. I'm not looking to get something for nothing, but I will place a value on everything I do. So it came without any reservation that a few minutes of my time would be worth a few dollars, here and there. I took the leap and signed up with Vindale Research. Mostly known for product research and opinion surveys, I am filling out questionnaires for them. One at a time. My efforts are rewarded with a direct deposit to my PayPal Account. No fussing around. I'm on my way to make a few bucks, but I'm being realistic about it. You should be too. Everyone has an Opinion, right?

Check it out at: Vindale Research

Stay out of Social Site Hell - Here are 10 ways to do just that.

I belong to Facebook and Twitter. There - I said it. So once you get rolling in the hay with those places, its fairly easy to forget how much of a problem that one, tiny, itsy-bitsy cell-phone pic can cause. It was taken by so-and-so's cousin while you were at that summer party. You know- the party that you had a hard time remembering the next day.

I'm trying real hard to watch my step when walking through this vast world of connections-from who-knows-where. You need to be careful too. It's not just the pics that can come back to bite you. Everything you type can become fodder too - especially for prospective employers.

How Big is Facebook?

I suppose HUGE doesn't do it justice. I use Facebook and I bet that if I threw the question out there, that many, many would say they do also. It's just a Social Media site, some say. Just a way to 'connect.' But whatever happened to the good ol' times? when gathering after church and the parties that we threw meant something. No so anymore. Now its not uncommon to see individuals with Hundreds of names on their list (like they even connected in the first place.) You may call those acquaintances. But that's like saying you are connected to the butcher, cause you saw him cut your meat. Ridiculous. I like connecting too, but not with strangers. Not willy-nilly.

Saving Money for Retirement - What a Concept

If we all live to be 80 then maybe we should start looking at our savings a little differently. I certainly hope to be able to retire at some point. Living past 65 is the immediate goal and enjoying any time after that would be long term. There seems to be an inherent problem in this country with saving money. We just don't do it.

I would never have thought that this country would get itself in the shape it is today. Investments shrinking by more than half. People walking away from their homes and mortgages. Unemployment at levels we haven't seen in years. Just think about the future for a moment. Do you have any kind of plan for it? With all the changes that have occurred, Now is a good time to see a Certified Financial Planner. Hopefully we can all avoid a monetary disaster by the time we retire.
